Product Review of Murphy Oil Soap

By Helena Ricketts

Murphy Oil Soap has been around since the dawn of time. Well, maybe not quite that long but it has been around for quite a while. I remember watching my mother clean our hardwood floors with this stuff when I was a kid and I always loved the way the floor looked afterward.

Since all of the interior doors and woodwork in our home are wood, it is better to clean them with a product that is made for wood. Murphy Oil Soap is specifically designed to clean and protect finished wood surfaces. The last bottle that I purchased was the 32 fl. oz. size and in my are it retails for approximately $2.99. I purchased this bottle at Walmart with no coupon because it is a good product and I don't know of any other cleaning solution that is meant for cleaning finished wood.

So, I bet you are wondering why I would do a review on this. The reason is because I ran into a woman in the isle at Kroger that was contemplating purchasing a bottle of Murphy Oil Soap and I stopped to have a little chat with her about it. She had never heard of it and was looking for something to clean her hardwood floors with. I was really surprised that there was a woman in the United States that cleans on a regular basis that had never heard or used Murphy Oil Soap. So that's why I'm writing this review.

Obviously i love this product since it has been in use in my family for so long. It is gold colored and an extremely thick liquid inside the bottle. It is made with 98% natural derived ingredients which means that it conditions the wood as it cleans it. It really is a soap for finished wood and cleans off dirt that you can't even see on the wood when you use it.

The smell can only be described as odd and thick. It is an distinctive smell that belongs to this product alone. It's not a foul smell by any sense but once you smell it a few times you will instantly recognize it whenever you walk into a home where it has recently been used.

Murphy Oil Soap has to be diluted in water to be used. You dilute 1/4 cup of the product into one gallon of warm water. You can use it with a mop on hardwood floors or a soft cloth on finished wood doors, baseboards, tables and many other surfaces. It doesn't suds up unless you run the water directly into the bucket and it doesn't matter which order you mix it in.

Will I purchase this product again? Um... yeah I will. I love Murphy Oil Soap and how well it performs on wood surfaces. It's an oldie and a goody... as my grandmother used to say.
