Things to Consider for Determining Price

Selling a domain name on Ebay is surprisingly simple. I have been occasionally selling off my domain name arsenal for a while now and have made a little bit of extra money in the process. There are a few things that a domain name seller needs to consider when thinking about selling a domain name on Ebay.

Popularity and Brandability of the Domain Name- If the domain name is brandable, popular and short, you may have a great opportunity to get a nice price for the domain name on Ebay.

Does the Domain Name have a PR Ranking?- I have been able to sell domain names that already have a PR ranking for a bit more money than new ones. The longer a domain name has been registered, the more desirable it can be.

Is it a .com, .info, .us, .co, etc.?- With my experience, the .com still sells easier than any other domain extension. Although if you have a hot .info domain name, don't be surprised if it sells quickly and well.

Auction or Fixed Price?

You always have two choices when selling anything on Ebay. Do you want to list it as an auction where people can bid and you have no idea how much it will eventually sell for? Or is there a certain amount that you are looking to get for each domain name you sell on the site?

I always list fixed price first and put it out there for a lot more than what I would expect someone to pay for that domain name. People will pay if they really want it. There is also the option to allow people who want the domain name to make an offer for it. I have been surprised more than once what people will pay when they are searching for a domain name that I happen to have for sale on Ebay.

If the fixed price listing does not have any bids, then I put the domain name up for auction. I start the bidding out at what the listing cost is combined with what I originally paid for the domain name. This is usually under $9.99 which can, and usually does, fall under Ebay's free insertion guidelines so I only pay a final value fee if the domain name sells.

I have been unsure a couple of times and have started the auctions out at 99cents which is a bit risky, but it can also be fun in the process once people start bidding. Even though the listing may only change a few cents here and there, the bidding wars can be exciting to watch. Since the domain name category receives so much traffic from buyers, this is actually an option to consider.

Why Ebay?

I choose to sell my domain names on Ebay because of the traffic that the site receives. It is simple to list, doesn't cost very much in fees and a successful transaction is an easy accomplishment. Thousands of domain name buyers frequent the site every day so if my inventory is good, the sales will always roll in.
